The first written accounts we have on the department are from August 8, 1957. At that time, Troy Tuck was Chief of Department. Meetings were held at City Hall, alarms were communicated by telephone, and the department had 1 firetruck and a jeep. By all accounts, there were few calls made, but most calls were for actual fires.
Today, our fire chief is Brian Hope. There are 26 members of the department using the most up to date equipment available. From Pumpers that can push over 1000 gallons of water per minute, to turnout gear that can withstand substantially more heat than any previous generation, and firefighters trained to perform lifesaving techniques as EMT's and Paramedics.
Previous generations responded mainly to fires, whereas today, motor vehicle accidents make up the majority of our calls. The department also responds to medical calls, assisting the local ambulance service in life threatening emergencies, haz-mat incidents, rope rescues, and any calls for assistance that the community asks of us. We do many classes throughout the year with the local school system to educate kids on fire safety, we go to local businesses and train them in the proper way to use fire extinguishers, and we walk through local factories to ensure we are familiar with the fire safety systems and building construction features.
Business meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, and training meetings are held on the third Thursday. Listed below is our personnel.
